Dunklin Fire to participate in National CHAD Program
(Post Date 09-25-2007)
The Dunklin Fire Protection District will participate in a Nationwide Child Safety Campaign called CHAD.
So you ask yourself, what is CHAD?
CHAD stands for Children Have An iDentity. The program was developed as a result of a traffic crash involving a 13 month old boy named Chad. The babysitter who had been driving was killed. Chad was injured, but no one at the scene knew his identity. Only because of an emergency room nurse recognized him could his parents be quickly located and his injures treated.
Since this tragedy, the Highway Safety Division has developed a pink sticker which is to be filled out with emergency contact information for a child in a car seat. In the event there is an emergency, on-scene firefighters, paramedics, and police officers have been trained to locate this sticker in the child seat.
The sticker should be completed, and affixed on the car seat’s right corner (child’s right) under the cushion or center back of the child safety seat.
If you travel with a child in a car seat, please stop in our Headquarters at 1987 State Road Z to obtain a CHAD sticker TODAY.
