Chief McClain establishes Training Captain
(Post Date 07-31-2007)
Chief McClain has promoted Mike Peterein Sr. to Training Captain. McClain says the promotion will allow Peterein Sr. to pass along his knowledge, skills and tactics to other firefighters and also new firefighters. The promotion occurred on July 9th 2007. Peterein Sr. will continue to respond to emergency incidents in the district, however will handle all on-going training and certifications and will maintain training records for district personnel.
Peterein Sr. has been in the firefighting field for over 9 years, and has extensive knowledge of the firefighting field. Peterein Sr. has a lot of training ideas he wants to bring to the table. Peterein Sr. said his goal is to have every firefighter trained and certified at Firefighter I & II levels. Peterein Sr. also plans to have several firefighters become CPR Certified Instructors, so they may start teaching citizens, and other community groups CPR at the firehouse.
Peterein Sr. also wants to take advantage of the summer and fall weather to do outside hands-on drills and training. Peterein Sr. wants to become involved in inter-agency training, allowing other agencies to join in on the training, simulating real-life firefighting scenarios.
Peterein Sr. will also handle recruiting. Peterein Sr. encourages people who have an interest in firefighting to contact him, for consideration. While training and experience is preferred for new applicants, it is not necessarily required. We will provide training to select candidates. (See website recruiting section.)
