Dunklin Firefighters to Check On Citizens during heat
(Post date 07-28-2007)
Captain Dustin Blake announced a new community safety program the district has launched, allowing firefighters to check on citizens during heat advisories.
The program, which the district will call “Checking on Citizens (COC), is designed to allow either a citizen or a family member of that citizen to contact the district and place their name on a roster.
In-turn, if the National Weather Service issues a heat advisory for the area, Dunklin firefighters will respond (non-emergency) to those citizens, make contact with them and ensure their welfare is safe during the time of high heat.
Blake hopes the COC program is a complete success. Blake said the program is free of charge, and urges citizens to enroll in the program. Blake said the district responds to numerous heat-related sickness’ each summer, most being elderly or other citizens who have medical problems. “It’s our way of doing something extra for our citizens and for us to be pro-active” Blake adds.
