Dunklin Fire responds to High Angle Rescue
(Post Date 11-22-2007)
On 11-22-2007 at 6:22 a.m. Dunklin Fire District and Joachim Plattin Ambulance District responded to Pevely Lakes Road for a reported high angle rescue.
Upon arrival, firefighters located a sixteen year old patient in a heavily wooded area, lying unconscious in a creek bed. The patient apparently was fleeing from Law Enforcement on foot, through the woods and failed to stop in time to avoid a plunge down an approximate 50 foot rock bluff.
Rock Community Fire Protection District responded to provide technical rescue support, however due to the scene being difficult to access with the large fire apparatus Rock Community was disregarded. It is standard procedure for Dunklin Fire District to request mutual aid assistance from Rock Community Fire on any type of high angle rescue.
Approximately 13 Dunklin Firefighters worked on the scene for approximately one hour to rescue the patient from the woods. The patient had to be carried through a creek, and out of the woods on a backboard.
The patient was transported to Dunklin Fire District’s Air Landing Zone and subsequently airlifted to a hospital for his injuries. No injuries to firefighters or Law Enforcement were reported.
