Dunklin Fire responds to Traumatic Injury
(Post Date 11-17-2007)
At approximately 3:04 p.m. on November 17th 2007 Firefighters from Dunklin Fire Protection District as well as Paramedics from Joachim Plattin Ambulance District responded to the 1900 Block of Herky-Horine Road for a Traumatic Injury.
Initial reports indicated a female hunter became stranded in a tree stand, upside down hanging from her feet, with unknown other injuries.
Our first heavy rescue apparatus arrived on the scene, manned by two Dunklin Firefighters. Shortly thereafter it was learned by these firefighters that the patient was deep into the wooded area. These two firefighters walked a long distance, through a creek and was finally able to access the patient. The firefighters requested additional firefighters to respond to the scene with a brush vehicle, and a rugged type backboard to help access and rescue the patient.
Three additional firefighters responded with a F-350 4x4 brush vehicle, however were still unable to gain access to the patient, even after traveling off road in four wheel drive, due to the creek stopping our vehicle. Firefighters then walked through the creek, and were finally able to access the patient, and other firefighters.
After placing the patient into a rugged type backboard, the firefighters carried the patient through the creek and back out of the wooded area. The patient was then loaded into an ambulance and transported to a hospital for her injuries.
